About us

The No on J—Protect Essential Workers coalition is a group of more than 800,000 workers who provide the services throughout Los Angeles County that residents count on. We are firefighters and paramedics, 911 operators, public health nurses, social workers, public safety officers, educators, and more. We work to keep our neighborhoods safe, provide opportunities for others to succeed, fix our roads, make sure clean drinking water and reliable electricity reach our homes, and much more.

We actively support efforts to fix racial and gender inequity. Our leadership reflects the broad diversity of the members of our organizations. We have been on the frontlines of some of the most important social justice fights of our lifetimes:

  • Fighting discrimination against race, gender, and sexual orientation

  • Raising the minimum wage to $15 and winning affordable health benefits for workers

  • Working to increase affordable housing and reliable mass transit

  • Fighting for rights for our immigrant communities

  • Pressuring elected officials for criminal justice reforms

  • Standing with communities to fight for environmental justice

  • Fighting for policies that make the economy more fair for workers, not big corporations

We all want more people in Los Angeles to succeed, but Measure J will harm the very people it says they help. It permanently diverts nearly $500,000,000.00 away from essential county services.
